What better way to see your photos than by making prints?
I love printing my photos because I can actually hold a physical copy of something that I’ve created in my hand, and there’s something very satisfying and rewarding about it. But what’s even better is printing your photo at a large size. That way, instead of having just a 4×6, you can have a full size print so you can see all of the details.
For my large print, I decided to do this photo I took in Targhee National Forest. We were waiting for the sun to set, and the light that was shining on all the weeds and plants was beautiful. I got down on the ground and positioned myself just right to get a beautiful backlit photograph of this frosted weed.
This is the original photograph. And I’m not going to lie, I think it looks great straight out of camera. But before I print it, I wanted to get rid of that solar flare on the right side of the photograph. So I just imported it into Photoshop and used the Content Aware feature, which is basically my best friend, to get rid of that spot. I also increased the sharpness just a little, as well as the clarity, just so it wouldn’t look blurry as a large print.
I wanted to do as few edits as possible to this image because of how much I liked it straight out of camera. And I’m seriously excited to see what this photo will look like in a large print!
I’m also excited because the large print will be featured on the first floor of the Art Building on campus! I can’t wait for everyone to see a photograph that I am proud of, and that I am able to share my work with the many students that go inside that building every day. There will definitely be a picture posted on my Instagram of just me basically ecstatic next to the final framed print.
Happy Photographing!
Great job with this image Lizzy. I’m glad you chose to use this image. I really like the contrast from the weed and the snow. I also really like the blurry background that you have and also the fantastic colors that are in the image. Great job and I look forward to seeing this printed.
